After Brøderbund ceased to exist in 1998, The Learning Company apparently sought to redesign the series. The company determined that the brand was stagnating but thought it easier to revive an established brand than start a new one Gimmighoul Coins in Pokemon Go. Under The Learning Company, the series seems to take its premise more seriously and uses character-based humor. Since The Learning Company has only created two Carmen Sandiego games, one of which is no longer sold. This change is evident mainly through the marketing of select Brøderbund products.

Each episode consisted of three contestants (10–14 years of age) competing against one another answering geography-related trivia questions to determine the location of one of Carmen Sandiego’s cronies and eventually Carmen herself. Throughout the program the contestants are referred to as “gumshoes”, in reference to fledgling detectives just starting out in the profession.

After Lee meets the day’s gumshoes at the beginning of the show, the Chief briefs them on the crime and the crook who committed it, often adding the crook’s reason for committing the crime. The gumshoes began with 50 ACME Crime Bucks each. Assorted live action, celebrity, musical, animated and costumed comedy sketches were performed, each providing clues to a geographical location of the day’s crook. A map with three possible locations was shown on-screen to the gumshoes, Lee reminded them of the clues and each gumshoe chose an answer. Ten Crime Bucks were added to each gumshoe’s score for a correct answer, and there was no penalty for a wrong guess.

Initially, it was fitted by default with the longer barrel of the BRS-99, the civilian version of the PM-06. Currently, the default barrel is a compact one, and it can be replaced by a standard PM-98 style barrel or a BRS-99’s barrel.

New world game

The character levels up personal attribute skills. Diminishing returns scale as an attribute’s skill level increases. The player’s character also levels up weapon and trade skills. The trade skills are divided into the three categories of “crafting” (weapon smithing, armoring, engineering, jewel crafting, arcana, cooking, and furnishing), “refining” (smelting, woodworking, leather working, weaving, and stone cutting), and “gathering” (logging, mining, harvesting, and tracking and skinning). There is also a “camping” skill (wilderness survival).

Exciting multiplayer expeditions. Join four allies and explore the deepest depths of Aeternum to face deadly foes, uncover mysteries about the island, and discover valuable loot. From the blighted Garden of Genesis to the fiery Empyrean Forge, expeditions in New World: Aeternum challenge players to work together and think fast to survive.

Challenging raid content: Brave the Hive of the Gorgons, an all-new 10-person raid where players face Broodmother Medusa, as she plots to raise an army of Hercyne.
