A crucial feature of Essos is Slaver’s Bay, a region known for the cities of Meereen, Yunkai, and Astapor. This area plays a central role in Daenerys Targaryen’s storyline as she seeks to liberate the enslaved populations there. To the north of Slaver’s Bay lies the Dothraki Sea, a vast steppe inhabited by the Dothraki, nomadic horse-riders who live by raiding and conquest. Essos also contains Volantis, the oldest of the Free Cities, and Qarth, a rich trade city located along the Jade Sea.
I don’t know if you monitor these comments anymore, but thought I’d let you know… For the “A World of Ice and Fire” Android app, the map of “The Known World” has a typo, with “The Milkwater” spelt as “The Milkwaer” instead.
Casterly Rock is an odd case. The Rock stands over Lannisport and is the family seat of the Lannisters. However, with their land grab for the Iron Throne, Casterly Rock becomes more of a retreat for the family, the place where those who fall out of favour are banished.
Game 1 world series
Moments after his error, Torres sparked the most interesting “defensive play” of the evening, when his long fly ball to left-center in the top of the ninth found the glove of a fan positioned at the wall in the pavilion seats. Because the fan had clearly reached over the wall to make the snag, it was ruled — and upheld on replay review — a ground-rule double rather than a go-ahead homer. In a gutsy move, the Dodgers intentionally walked Soto to face Aaron Judge with two aboard, and Blake Treinen came on to get Judge to harmlessly pop out to end the inning.
This game is out of hand early as Kyle Tucker unloads on a 3-2 sinker from Aaron Nola for a three-run home run and 5-0 lead for the Astros in the bottom of the third. John Smoltz made a great point on the broadcast that Nola didn’t seem to want to go back to his changeup since Tucker had homered off it in the second inning. So even though Nola got ahead 0-2, he stuck with fastballs and curveballs. Tucker locked in on the fastball and crushed it at 105.3 mph and 395 feet to right-center, becoming the first Astros player with a multi-homer game in the World Series. We have plenty of time left to see if Tucker can match Babe Ruth (twice), Reggie Jackson, Albert Pujols and Pablo Sandoval with a three-homer World Series game. — Schoenfield
Dodgers: Carrying one of the best bullpens in the sport — and the biggest key to this postseason run — the Dodgers will continue to deploy their bullpen aggressively. Michael Kopech and Blake Treinen will be the team’s top relievers, with veterans Daniel Hudson and Ryan Brasier providing depth. Evan Phillips was left off the roster because of a right arm injury he sustained in Game 6 against the Mets. Alex Vesia and Anthony Banda give the Dodgers two strong left-handed options.
There was plenty of drama before the grand slam as well. The Dodgers scored the first run, but the Yankees responded with a titanic homer from Giancarlo Stanton. Both starting pitchers, Gerrit Cole and Jack Flaherty, had good starts, but Flaherty came out in line for the loss.
Dodgers: With the Yankees starting a right-hander in Game 1, Lux is back in the starting lineup for the first time since NLCS Game 3. Freeman missed Game 6 of the NLCS with his badly sprained ankle, but he’s back in the three-hole in Game 1.

Game 2 world series 2024
After Rodón got two quick outs, the Dodgers didn’t seem to have much brewing. But then Mookie Betts provided a spark, roping a line-drive single to left in a 3-and-1 count. Hernández caused an eruption two pitches later, ambushing a 1-and-0 fastball for a two-run shot the other way. Then Freeman completed the sudden detonation, following up his walk-off grand slam in Game 1 with another drive to the right-field pavilion off a full-count heater.
Freeman, still nursing that sprained right ankle, went deep again, and this time he had the company of NLCS MVP Tommy Edman and All-Star Teoscar Hernández and the backing of 6 1/3 one-hit innings from Yamamoto. The party quieted when Ohtani went down, and the Yankees had everybody on the edge of their seats when they plated a run and loaded the bases in the ninth. But the Dodgers protected their home turf.
In all best-of-seven postseason series, teams taking a 2-0 lead have gone on to win the series 77 of 92 times (84%). The most recent comeback from a 2-0 deficit came in the 2023 NLCS, with the D-backs rallying against the Phillies. Under the current 2-3-2 format, teams winning Games 1 and 2 at home have gone on to take the series 45 of 56 times (80%).

These Dodgers of Ohtani, Freeman and Betts joined the 1955 Duke Snider and Roy Campanella Boys of Summer, the Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale era that spanned the three titles from 1959-65, the Tommy Lasorda-led groups 1981 and ’88, and the Betts and Clayton Kershaw champions of 2020.
