The Diamondbacks advanced to the World Series by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals, three games to two, in the NL Division Series, and then the Atlanta Braves in the NL Championship Series, four games to one. It was the franchise’s first appearance in a World Series.

1928: Yankees over CardinalsGehrig and Ruth did the heavy lifting for the Yanks in this series, combining to go 16-for-27 (.593) with seven home runs and 13 RBIs. Ruth ended the series with a bang, crushing three home runs in Game 4 in St. Louis.
