Noah Syndergaard rebounded after a catastrophic start. Will Rob Thomson try to squeeze another inning out of him? It’s likely he doesn’t want Yordan Alvarez to see Syndergaard a second time. If so, does it make sense to try to get one more out from Syndergaard, or to guarantee a reliever a clean inning?

With the series ready to shift back to St. Louis for game-six, game-five felt like game-seven for the Rangers. The game did not disappoint. Tied at 2-2 in the bottom-of-the-eighth, Mike Napoli hit a two-run go-ahead double off Marc Rzepczynski in what became known as ‘Bullpen-gate’. Tony La Russa planned to use the left-handed Rzepcynski to face David Murphy. With right-handed Mike Napoli due up next, La Russa would go with right-handed Jason Motte to face Napoli. However, due to a miscommunication, rookie Lance Lynn warmed up instead of Motte. La Russa would keep Rzepcynski in the game to face Napoli and the rest is history. The Rangers won the game 4-2 taking a 3-2 lead in the series. The Rangers were one win away from being World Series champions.
Game 6 of the 2011 World Series is on the short list of craziest games in World Series history, with the Cardinals prevailing 10-9 in 11 innings. The Rangers — who had lost the World Series to the Giants the previous year — were on the verge of their first World Series title in franchise history, as they led the Cardinals 7-5 going into the bottom of the ninth.
They defeated the overall #1 seed Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series 3 games to 2, and then defeated the second-seeded Milwaukee Brewers (who were the first team in history to reach both NLCS and ALCS and the team the Cardinals faced in the 1982 World Series) in six games in the National League Championship Series. Game 5 of the NLDS between the Cardinals and Phillies featured a pitching duel between Chris Carpenter and Phillies ace Roy Halladay that became the first NL playoff series to end in a 1–0 score and Carpenter’s second complete game shutout clincher of the season. In the NLCS against Milwaukee, Freese had a .545 batting average, hit 3 home runs, drove in 9 runs, and scored 7 runs. He was named the NLCS Most Valuable Player.
Game 6 has been called one of the greatest games in baseball history, as the Cardinals staved off elimination throughout an unforgettable 10-9 win in 11 innings at Busch Stadium. The Rangers entered the ninth with a two-run lead and their first World Series championship in sight. But with two on, two outs and a 1-2 count, Freese bashed a game-tying triple just over Cruz’s outstretched glove and off the right-field wall.

Game 3 college world series
It was an incredible season from end-to-end for the Volunteers. Not only were they the first No. 1 overall seed to win the National title since Miami in 1999, but their 60 total wins are the most for a CWS champion since 1989.
There was surprisingly little doubt about the result of last night’s game after Texas A&M took a commanding 7-1 lead thanks to a five-run third inning that was aided by some shoddy Tennessee defense. True freshman Gavin Grahovac set the tone with a lead-off home run just three pitches into the game, while Kaeden Kent continues to be the Aggies’ best hitter. Last night, he went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and four RBIs, and since June 8 he is 12-for-25 with two doubles and two home runs.
Texas A&M scored three early runs off Florida starter Liam Peterson, then held on even as Florida mounted a rally late. The Gators loaded the bases against Aggies relief ace Evan Aschenbeck in the eighth inning but could not scratch across the tying run.
Florida State’s relentless offense proved to be a little too much for North Carolina today, as they downed the Tar Heels 9-5 to end their season. The Seminoles took a 3-1 lead into the fifth thanks to a Drew Faurot RBI single and a pair of manufactured runs, but broke the game open with a four run-scoring singles.
