I didn’t go get the mount ( a horse) until I was level 25, so it wasn’t a burning issue for me, but I would have liked the mount to be unlocked at, say, level 10 or 15 at the latest and in a corresponding area of power level.
Combat in New World: Aeternum is more or less the same as its 2021 counterpart, but I found it much easier on console. In my 2021 adventure on PC, I went with a sword-wielding explorer, but in this game, as I mentioned, I chose a hit-from-afar Occultist. On console, attacks are mapped to the shoulder buttons on your controller, making them much easier to pull off compared to clicking a mouse, which can easily move away from your target if you’re getting frazzled by a tough enemy or a swarm of multiple foes.
Which is really sad, because it’s a beautiful, fun combat game that has a lot of potential, that was squandered by the developers making wrong decision after wrong decision, culminating with a mandatory expansion that was basically the price of the main game for not even a third of the content, and instead of making new world more accessible, the player numbers tanked to the point of financial unviability.
This dip was most likely due to the impending launch of New World: Aeternum, and this is where New World’s story gets a bit confusing. See, Amazon immediately started treating New World: Aeternum like the launch of a new game. The initial announcement focused mostly on it launching on consoles, but it also completely omitted the fact that it was an MMO. It was an action-RPG that you could play with your friends, Amazon said.
